Often people come to counselling with the idea that there is something wrong with them, something that is fixed. I work with the assumption that this is not the case, but that the self is a process. It is a process that is always in relationship with an other, whether that might be a partner, a job, family, a past experience or an aspect of one's personality.

I offer an exploratory and philosophical approach to looking at these relationships, starting with where you are now and seeing where we go from there. As themes and patterns emerge, they can provide structure and indicate where to explore further. We can work with past experiences and life as it is happening now. This can involve identifying ways in which you might be getting in your own way, repeating old patterns that no longer serve you. There may be narratives that you have about yourself that don't ring true.

The work we do is a collaboration, aiming to create awareness and understanding. With awareness and understanding you can choose how to act and how to be, and this can lead to change.

Awareness can be reached through bringing attention to what is being said, and how it is being said. What is not being said. It can be reached by paying attention to what is happening in the body. In my practice art, visualisation, images and metaphor are ways of reaching deeper levels of experience.

am open to working with adults of all identities, backgrounds, ages and beliefs. I am aware of the challenges we face in this time, of the anxiety and uncertainty that is ever present, and the real systemic obstacles there are to the wellbeing of many of us; I welcome exploration of this in the counselling room.
